- 1 - 5. _K_n_o_w_n__P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s__a_n_d__W_o_r_k_a_r_o_u_n_d_s The following problems are new in Indigo Magic 6.4. The following problem occurs in iconcatalog, file manager, and the desktop background when languages are changed: +o When language is changed in ipanel, and the user logs out and logs back in, the icons on the background, in the file manager, and the iconcatalog may appear tiny. For the file manager and the iconcatalog, use the thumbwheel to scale the icons back to desired size. For the background, use the Desktop customization panel launched from the Desktop Customize toolchest. The following problems occur in using MediaMail for IRIX 6.2 on an IRIX 6.3 or 6.4 system: +o MediaMail will complain that it cannot find the colors OOOOzzzzCCCCllllttttnnnnPPPPaaaannnneeeellllCCCCoooolllloooorrrr or OOOOzzzzRRRReeeeaaaaddddOOOOnnnnllllyyyyCCCCoooolllloooorrrr, which are obsolete in IRIX 6.3 and later releases. To silence these complaints, edit your $_H_O_M_E/._S_g_i_r_e_s_o_u_r_c_e_s file and add this line: ZZZZmmmmaaaaiiiillll****sssscccchhhheeeemmmmeeeeFFFFiiiilllleeeeLLLLiiiisssstttt:::: SSSSggggiiiiSSSSppppeeeecccc,,,, IIIImmmmddddPPPPaaaalllleeeetttttttteeee,,,, IIIImmmmddddSSSSppppeeeecccc,,,, ZZZZmmmmaaaaiiiillllSSSSppppeeeecccc (Alternately, the root user can edit the system-wide /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_X_1_1/_a_p_p-_d_e_f_a_u_l_t_s/_Z_m_a_i_l file and change its sssscccchhhheeeemmmmeeeeFFFFiiiilllleeeeLLLLiiiisssstttt resource as above. This will silence the complaints for all users.) On IRIX 6.3, you will also need to edit (as root) the /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_X_1_1/_s_c_h_e_m_e_s/_B_a_s_e/_Z_m_a_i_l_S_p_e_c file, find the two Oz colors in the file, and change OOOOzzzz to IIIImmmmdddd. Relaunch MediaMail to see the changes. The following problems occur in the toolchest: +o When running a remote toolchest, the menu items under Find Icon Catalog are all local entries. The programs do not run on the remote system. +o When trying to use the Internet toolchest to Browse OutBox Page, it's possible to get an error from your Web browser. This can occur if your local host does not have a Web server installed, or if its Web server - 2 - is not running. If this happens, you can see if you have the _n_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k product installed by typing vvvveeeerrrrssssiiiioooonnnnssss nnnnssss____ffffaaaassssttttttttrrrraaaacccckkkk in a Unix shell window. If no subsystems are listed, then you need to install (as root) the _n_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k product from your IRIX Applications CD. You may also want to install the _n_s__a_d_m_i_n product, which is used to configure the FastTrack server. You can use the graphical Software Manager tool _s_w_m_g_r(_1_M) to do this. If you already have the _n_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k product installed, then you can check if the FastTrack server is running by typing ppppssss ----eeeeffff |||| ggggrrrreeeepppp hhhhttttttttppppdddd in a shell window. If you see nothing listed, or if you see only output with the string "/usr/ns-home/httpd-2077/config", then your default Web server may not be running. To restart it, type (as root) ////eeeettttcccc////iiiinnnniiiitttt....dddd////nnnnssss____ffffaaaassssttttttttrrrraaaacccckkkk ssssttttaaaarrrrtttt in the shell window. You may want the Web server to start automatically each time the host is rebooted. You can check if it is already configured for automatic restart by typing cccchhhhkkkkccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggg and looking for the _n_s__a_d_m_i_n and _n_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k lines. If the status is _o_f_f then the server will not run automatically upon reboot. To change this configuration, type cccchhhhkkkkccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggg nnnnssss____ffffaaaassssttttttttrrrraaaacccckkkk oooonnnn or cccchhhhkkkkccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggg nnnnssss____aaaaddddmmmmiiiinnnn oooonnnn in a shell window. For more information about starting and stopping your Web server, see the nnnnssss____aaaaddddmmmmiiiinnnn, nnnnssss____ffffaaaassssttttttttrrrraaaacccckkkk, or other appropriate Web server release notes. If you still have problems, please contact your local service provider. The following problems occur in the file manager: +o If you get icons with no pictures, you need to become root, cd to /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_f_i_l_e_t_y_p_e, and run make. +o The file manager fails to move or copy (drag & drop) onto a ddddoooossss media, any files whose mode of access is greater than 0777 (see _c_h_m_o_d(_1)). For example, you cannot copy a file with 04755 (set user ID) access mode permissions, onto a ddddoooossss formatted media from the file manager. You can work around this problem by changing its mode of access to less than or equal to 0777 (see _c_h_m_o_d(_1)). - 3 - +o Changing the language from the Desktop toolchest, then Customize, then Language (ipanel) can sometimes make the icons very small. The solution is straightforward. Use the thumbwheel to scale the icons to normal size. The following problems occur in the desktop background: +o Changing the language from the Desktop toolchest, then Customize, then Language (ipanel) can sometimes make the icons very small. The solution is go to the Desktop toolchest, then Customize, then Desktop, and use the Background Icon Size thumbwheel to scale the icons to normal size. The following problems occur in the search tool: +o Several features are not available at this release. They include no right mouse menu, no Selected menu, and no searching for people, hosts, or devices. The following problems occur in the customize panels: +o The _t_w_i_l_i_g_h_t(_6_D) GL background does not work properly on some systems running IRIX 6.4. Stripes can appear across all the application windows. To work around this, select a different background pattern on the Background customization panel. This problem should be fixed in a future release. +o Selecting MHmail in Desktop->Customize->Utilities will not give the desired result when clicking the mailbox or double-clicking a mail folder icon. +o If the line "export test=1" appears in your $$$$HHHHOOOOMMMMEEEE////....ddddeeeesssskkkkttttoooopppp----_h_o_s_t_n_a_m_e////ppppaaaannnneeeellllsssseeeessssssssiiiioooonnnn file, then customizations you make through the Desktop->Customize panels will not be remembered across sessions. In particular, if you have checked the Enable Remote Display toggle on the Desktop panel, the "export test=1" line can prevent you from running applications on a remote system and displaying them on your local system. To fix this problem, simply edit the panelsession file in your favorite text editor and delete the "export test=1" line. +o System and Desktop Sound (dtSounds): If soundscheme is not running, toggling on _D_e_s_k_t_o_p _S_o_u_n_d_s will have no - 4 - effect. The following problems occur in the output manager (outputd): +o Killing _o_u_t_p_u_t_d will cause any application that was launched while _o_u_t_p_u_t_d was running to die if it tries to produce any output.
